The Digital Transformation of Education and Training in Vietnam
To remain competitive and relevant in the digital age, businesses, governments, and organizations around the world have turned to digital transformation. Digital technologies are revolutionizing how people learn, teach, and access educational resources, and the education and training sector is no exception. Vietnam, like many other developing countries, faces educational and training system issues such as insufficient infrastructure, limited access to quality education, and outmoded teaching methods. However, as digital technologies become more widely adopted, there is an opportunity for Vietnam to reform its education and training sector and address these difficulties. The purpose of this article is to discuss the significance of digital transformation in education and training in Vietnam, including its benefits, problems, and prospective impact on the country's education system.
1. Education and Training: Digital Transformation
The use of digital technology to improve teaching and learning processes, as well as the distribution of educational material and resources, is referred to as digital transformation in education and training. In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of digital technology in education and training, with many countries and organizations embracing these technologies to improve their educational offerings. E-learning platforms, virtual reality simulations, gamification, and adaptive learning algorithms are examples of digital revolution in education and training.
There are various advantages to digital transformation in education and training. Digital technologies enable personalized learning experiences in which students can learn at their own pace while receiving tailored feedback. They also enable remote learning, which is especially useful in locations where access to education is restricted or physical attendance is difficult. Digital transformation can also raise the efficiency of teaching and learning processes, save costs, and expand access to educational resources.
Many governments and institutions worldwide have embraced digital transformation in education and training, with some making it a national priority. For example, the European Union has set a goal of providing high-quality digital education to all European residents by 2025. In the United States, the Department of Education has created efforts such as the Ed Tech Developer's Guide and the Future Ready Schools program to promote the use of technology in education.
2. Vietnam's Current Education and Training Situation
Nguyen Huu Do, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, emphasizes that digital transformation is an unavoidable trend in society and education in particular. He was particularly impressed by the adaptable capability, active learning, and use of information technology in the educational process. The Education sector has accomplished notable successes in the context of migrating from direct instruction to online teaching, assuring safety in preventing Covid-19, maintaining quality goals, and finishing the academic year plan.
Nguyen Huu Do identifies three key difficulties in the implementation of information technology and digital transformation. They are as follows:
- Contributing to the development of breakthroughs
- Developmental differentiation for both general education and higher education;
- Putting students and teachers at the forefront of digital change
- Using the benefits of learners, educators, and citizens to evaluate digital transformation
- Recognizing management authorities' significant responsibilities and involvement in digital transformation. These standards must be met by precise strategies and actions.
Director of the Ministry of Education and Training, stated in the report on digital transformation in education that recently, the results of information technology and digital transformation application of the Ministry of Education and Training, in general, and the Education sector, in particular, have achieved some significant results.
The Ministry of Education and Training has developed a detailed information management database system for all schools from preschool to high school, including component databases (including schools, classes, students, teachers, facilities, finances, and so on), and has compiled data from 63 Departments of Education and Training and 710 Education and Training Offices. This resulted in the digitization of nearly 24 million student records (information about their background, learning process, training, health, and so on), more than 1.5 million records of teachers, staff, and management officials (records, professional qualifications, and standard evaluation) from 53,000 schools, and information about school facilities, toilets (Source).
In Vietnam, the Impact of Digital Transformation on Education and Training
In Vietnam, the digital revolution of education and training has had various positive effects on the industry. Among these effects are the following:
- Methods of teaching and learning are changing.
- Access to education and training options has been improved.
- Overall, the quality of education and training in Vietnam has improved.
The shift in teaching and learning methods is one of the most significant effects of digital revolution on education and training in Vietnam. Because of the usage of digital technologies, instructors may now present content to students in more engaging and interactive ways, resulting in higher student engagement and retention. Digital tools such as educational software, simulations, and gamification have also enabled more personalized learning experiences tailored to individual students' requirements and learning styles.
In Vietnam, digital revolution has also considerably enhanced access to education and training opportunities. Students from remote or underprivileged locations can now access educational resources that were previously out of reach thanks to the utilization of online learning platforms. This has aided in the bridge-building between urban and rural schooling in Vietnam.
Furthermore, digital transformation initiatives have helped to improve the overall quality of education and training in Vietnam. Educators may now collect and analyze data on student performance and learning outcomes thanks to the usage of digital technologies. This data-driven approach has enabled educators to discover areas for growth and change teaching techniques and content to better match their students' needs.
Education and Training: The Importance of Digital Transformation
1. Making a versatile learning environment
Instead of dozens of pupils sitting in a four-walled classroom, digital technology has created a more flexible learning environment. Learners can now simply and conveniently acquire knowledge on any device (computer, laptop, smartphone, etc.).
This has resulted in the creation of a fully new open education system. Anyone, at any time and from any location, can gain access to information and knowledge in the most multifaceted way. It fully removes distance constraints, optimizes learning time, and improves learners' intellect and reasoning.
2. Unlimited access to learning materials
For learners, digital transformation will result in a massive open learning resource. This means that students can gain access to learning resources more readily and affordably. Rather than paying money on books or going to the library to borrow them. Learners can now immediately access learning resources via online devices without regard to their financial situation.
On the other side, digital transformation facilitates and reduces the cost of exchanging resources and curricula amongst students and teachers by reducing printing costs.
3. Improve interaction and real-world experience
Many individuals believe that online learning will reduce interactions between teachers and students. However, because students can chat face-to-face with their teachers without being constrained by physical space, this new learning style helps to promote two-way interaction.
Furthermore, 4.0 technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) provide learners with more "real" experiences. In contrast to old theoretical learning methods that can only be envisioned through books, these new technologies enable learners to have multimodal experiences, fostering curiosity and interest in learning.
4. Improve educational quality
The digital transformation of education has ushered in a new era in which instructors and students alike are empowered to use technology.
Big data helps to store all knowledge in cyberspace, the Internet of Things (IoT) helps to track students' behavior, manage and monitor students, and Blockchain helps to build a system to manage educational information and records of students, allowing for the integration, management, and sharing of data from many schools, as well as recording students' academic history and grades to ensure data consistency and transparency.
5. Reduce costs
The era of online learning will provide learning chances at significantly lower costs than in the past. Schools will have to spend less money on facilities, equipment, and other related expenses.
Learners have more options as a result of digital revolution. They can participate in E-learning courses at a significantly reduced cost instead of attending public schools. Even students can select courses that are appropriate for them and the subjects in which they are actually interested. This contributes to more effective and high-quality learning.
6. Conclusion
The digital transformation of education has resulted in various benefits, including more interaction and real-world experiences for students, higher educational quality through the use of cutting-edge technologies, and lower training costs. The change to online learning has also increased options for students, who may now access a broader selection of courses at a reduced cost and tailored to their own interests. As technology advances, we may expect many more inventions that will transform education and provide individuals all around the world with greater access to learning.
