Wax, Wax Resin, and Resin: Thermal Transfer Ribbons and Their Applications
Barcode label printing involves using different types of thermal transfer ribbons: Wax, Wax Resin, and Resin. These three widely recognized ribbon categories are crucial in creating durable, high-quality barcode labels. This article will delve into their composition, characteristics, and essential applications.
1. Wax
Wax thermal transfer ribbons consist of carbon and wax. Notably, wax ribbons exhibit high heat sensitivity, although their adhesive properties and durability are comparatively lower than other ribbon types. They are suitable for printing on materials like printing paper, semi-gloss paper, wood-free paper, uncoated tags or card
2. Wax Resin
Wax Resin, thermal transfer ribbons, are composed of carbon, wax, and resin. Combining these materials grants wax resin ribbons better resistance to heat friction, abrasion, and chemicals, with moderate heat sensitivity. They are suitable for printing on semi-gloss paper, coated or uncoated tags, and synthetic PP & PE labels.
3. Resin
Resin thermal transfer ribbons consist of carbon and resin, with a higher melting point than wax and wax resin. Resin ribbons exhibit excellent durability and can withstand harsh climatic conditions. They show strong resistance against heat friction, abrasion, contamination, humidity, UV light, and chemicals. These ribbons are suitable for printing on synthetic materials like PP or PE and polyester labels but are not recommended for paper. Notably, Ricoh's Resin B125CS ribbon product line can even print on both paper and film, saving time by reducing the need to change ribbons based on the printing material.
Understanding the distinctions between Wax, Wax Resin, and Resin thermal transfer ribbons is crucial in choosing the correct ribbon for specific barcode label applications. Each ribbon type offers unique properties that cater to different material requirements, ensuring the production of accurate, durable, and high-quality barcode labels.
